NohoHacks is California’s first GenAI learnathon/hackathon for high schoolers by high schoolers, featuring a week of hands-on online workshops and guided learning led by tech professionals. Focused on making tech more accessible, it helps students develop new skills, build innovative projects, and connect with a supportive network of peers and mentors.

Hackathon: an event in which a large number of people meet to engage in collaborative computer programming.

Two Tracks: General + Prompt Engineering/Beginner (Must attend learnathon to qualify for prompt engineering/beginner track)

Hackathon Schedule

8:00-8:15 AM: Opening ceremony and breakfast

8:30 AM: Product ideation workshop

8:30-9:00 AM: Brainstorming/start projects

11:30 AM: AI ethics speaker

12:30-1:00 PM: Lunch

David Canlas

David is a Product Manager with a career spanning from Government, Non-Profit, Startups, and Corporate. Today, he is a Graduate Student at USC pursuing an MSIDBT after attaining his MBA from Pepperdine University, and teaches as an Adjunct Instructor at institutions like UCLA and America On Tech.

Troy Ryder

Troy is a software Development Engineer at Capital Group. On the Quant Research Engineering and Data team, he builds APIs and dashboards to supply data and insights to analyst and traders

FAQs

  • NohoHacks is open to all high school students who are eager to learn. No prior coding experience is required! Our workshops are beginner-friendly and designed to guide you every step of the way.

  • Sessions will be held virtually via Zoom from 4:30 PM to 7:00 PM during the weeks of November 3 - 7 and November 10 - 14.

  • The hackathon will take place at North Hollywood High School (5231 Colfax Ave, North Hollywood, CA 91601) on Saturday, November 15, 2025, from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM.

  • Not at all! Thanks to our generous sponsors, NohoHacks is completely free to attend. Meals, snacks, merch, and learning materials will all be provided at no cost.

  • Teams can have 1–4 students. Don’t have a team? No worries!  We’ll help match you with other participants so you can collaborate.

    • Your school ID

    • A laptop/computer (if you need a rental, let us know in advance)

    • Your charger

    • Paper and pencil

    • Creativity and curiosity!

  • Just let us know on your registration form or email us. We’ll make sure there are alternative meal options available (vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, etc.). You must indicate this on the registration form at least 2 weeks prior to the event.

  • Yes! Winners will receive tech devices (iPads, keyboards, laptops, Polaroid cameras, and airpods), gift cards, and other prizes to help you continue your technology journey after the event.

  • General Track
    Projects must be primarily hand-coded. Limited use of AI is allowed, but participants must clearly explain how AI was used. Any sign of dishonesty/misuse is means for disqualification.

    GenAI Track
    Projects should be primarily built using generative AI tools. AI must play a central role in the development process.
